Metropolitan German of Kursk and Ryl'sk sends condolences to the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad

Your Eminences, Your Graces:

It is with great sorrow in our hearts that we learned of the repose of His Eminence the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, the deeply-esteemed and respected Vladyka Metropolitan Hilarion.

Our Kursk Diocese always takes close to heart all events, both joyful and sorrowful, that take place in the Russian diaspora, for we share a holy icon, the Miracle-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign.” And today we remember the unforgettable days of its first visit to Kursk after a 90-year hiatus, which was brought to Moscow by dear Vladyka Metropolitan. What a joy it was to meet the icon, the entire city literally emerged to greet the Holy Image, and what memorable days of spiritual celebration and prayerful communion we experienced! The late Primate, while still in the rank of archbishop, visited Kursk, heading a large pilgrim delegation from the Australian Diocese; how happy we were to spend time with this remarkably kind, bright and wise person. He will always remain thus in our memory. And with what warmth and care the reposed received our Kursk visiting pilgrims in New York! How sad to lose such remarkable hierarchs such as Vladyka Laurus and the newly-reposed Vladyka Metropolitan Hilarion, his most-worthy successor!

Dear Bishops! Accept our most earnest condolences. We share your sorrow and pray for the repose of the soul of the newly-departed Primate in the Heavenly abodes together with the Saints. Eternal Memory to the newly-reposed Vladyka Hilarion and may he be granted the Kingdom of Heaven!

May the Lord strengthen and help you all.

With love in the Risen Christ,

Metropolitan of Kursk and Ryl’sk
