His Grace Bishop Gabriel Visits Camp NORR

His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, visited the children’s summer camp NORR (Association of Russian Explorers Outside of Russia) in the Catskill Mountains on July 11 and 12, 2005.

It has become a tradition for Bishop Gabriel to visit camp each year. For the sixth consecutive summer, Vladyka took part in camp life, visited with the instructors and counselors, and spent time with the youth. This year NORR is operating its 39th summer camp in the Catskill Mountains in the State of New York.

Vladyka Gabriel officiated at all-night vigil. The service was celebrated by the camp’s spiritual father, Mitred Protopriest Alexey Ohotin, along with Deacon Serge Arlievsky and Deacon Dimitri Temidis. After vigil, Vladyka held a discussion with the youth who eagerly awaited the opportunity to meet the Bishop on their own.

On the feast day, the meeting of the Bishop occurred at 7:30 am with the participation of the entire camp. Vladyka Gabriel served Divine Liturgy, which was concelebrated by the same clergymen. In his sermon, Vladyka spoke about the SS Peter and Paul and redemption.

Both Vladyka Gabriel and the campers enjoyed this opportunity to meet and spend time together. Vladyka treated the camp to ice cream.
