BISHKEK, KIRGHIZIA: September 10, 2019
The Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign” arrives in Kirghizstan

On Monday, September 9, 2019, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" was brought from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to the Diocese of Bishkek and Kirghizstan, by His Eminence Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan and His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Vicar of the Eastern American Diocese. Clergymen of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand likewise accompanied the holy image.

His Grace Bishop Daniil of Bishkek and Kirghizstan and his clergymen welcomed the Kursk Icon at the holy gates of the city.

The miracle-working icon of the Holy Theotokos was brought from the USA with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

After the solemn greeting of the icon on the courtyard of Resurrection of the Lord Cathedral, an Akathist was read before the icon by Vladyka Vikenty, Vladyka Daniil and Vladyka Nicholas.

Participating were all the clergymen of the Diocese of Bishkek and a multitude of worshipers. By Vladyka Daniil’s blessing, everyone was given brochures with the history of the holy image. The three archpastors then addressed the thousand persons in attendance with words of blessing.
