The miracle-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign," visits medical centers in Kursk

On September 26, 2018, the miracle-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign,” visiting the Kursk region, was taken from Znamensky Cathedral to visit medical and social institutions of the city of Kursk.

The great holy icon was brought to St Panteleimon the Great Martyr and Healer Church, which is situated at the Kursk Psychiatric Hostpital. Parishioners of the growing community, medical staff and patients joyfully received the icon. Priest Ilya Kozlov, parish rector, performed a moleben and blessed the worshipers with the icon.

Veterans were for the first time able to venerate the Kursk-Root Icon at the Kursk Veteran’s Residence. The priests accompanying the icon of the Mother of God went to all the rooms of the social center to visit the weak and ill.

The miracle-working icon was then taken to the Oblast Specialized Home for Children. During a moleben before the image, staff brought little children up to kiss it. Afterwards, Protopriest Alexander Lobanov visited the intensive-care unit.

The icon was then taken to the Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2 and another such center on Koltsov Street, the Kursk Municipal Clinical Hospital for Emergency Care, the Oncologocial Center on Pirogova Street and the Oncocenter in Kislino, as well as the Oblast Prenatal Center. In all these institutions, molebens were performed before the image of the Mother of God, which would also visit the sick in their beds.

The patients and medical staffs all thanked His Eminence Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk and his accompanying clergymen for the opportunity to venerate the icon. Many approached with trepidation and tears in their eyes, for the Mother of God Herself visited them in the form of Her own image to grant them consolation and strength to fight their ailments.
