The Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" Arrives in Kumertau Diocese

On Tuesday, October 20, 2015, His Grace Bishop Nikolai of Salavat and Kumertausk and His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan jointly celebrated Divine Liturgy at Uspensky Cathedral in Salavat, Russia. A moleben was then served before the miracle-working Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign.”

Bishop Nicholas then relayed greetings from His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and thanked everyone in attendance for their warm welcome.

The hierarchs and delegation accompanying the Kursk-Root Icon then visited the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Inexhaustible Cup” in Salavat and the Sunday school, vestry and library under construction, as well as Holy Trinity Church in Ishimbay and its Sunday school.

The Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign," accompanied by Protodeacon Alexander Kichakov, was then taken in a helicopter around the city of Salavat and the towns of Zirgan and Korneevka. This procession was organized by the initiative of Vladyka Nikolai with the help of the municipality and local authorities and entrepreneurs.

That day, a pilgrimage led by the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God was organized by the Sobriety Society to St John the Forerunner Church in Kumertau. The church’s clergymen, led by the local Dean, Protopriest Sergy Vetrov, performed a moleben and akathist before the icon of the Mother of God.
