The Primate of the Russian Church Abroad Makes an Archpastoral Visit to California

On Thursday, August 23, 2012, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, will arrive in San Francisco, CA, where he will make an archpastoral visit. That evening, Vladyka Hilarion will attend a reception thrown by Victor Nikolaevich Lizun, Consul General of the Russian Federation in San Francisco.

On Friday, the First Hierarch of ROCOR will participate in a round table titled “Compatriots and the Russian Orthodox Church: Cooperation in North America and Oceania.” Participating in this event, which was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, will be religious figures and representatives of the diplomatic corps, and Russian cultural and social organizations in the US.

On Saturday, August 25, Metropolitan Hilarion, along with His Eminence Metropolitan Ilarion of Volokolamsk, President of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America of ROCOR, along with a host of bishops, will celebrate Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Church in Fort Ross, located on the magnificent Pacific coast. This day will mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of this Russian settlement, which is now a historic site. After Liturgy, a procession of the cross will be made to the cemetery, where a commemorative litiya will be performed.

On Sunday, August 26, Metropolitan Hilarion and Metropolitan Ilarion, Archbishop Kyrill and His Eminence Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk, Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, will celebrate Divine Liturgy at St Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in San Francisco. On Tuesday, they will be joined by a host of hierarchs in celebrating Liturgy at ROCOR’s Cathedral of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow.”

On Saturday and Sunday, September 1-2, the First Hierarch of ROCOR will make a pilgrimage to St Herman’s Monastery in Platina, CA, for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the repose of the world-renowned author of spiritual literature and podvizhnik Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose).
