On November 3, 2009, the feast day of St Hilarion of the Kiev Caves, the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign in New York marked the namesday of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion. Vladyka Hilarion celebrated Divine Liturgy on this day along with His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, as well as his vicar bishops, His Grace Bishop George of Mayfield and His Grace Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, as well as clergymen of the diocese and visiting priests. At the end of divine services Vladyka Hilarion was given the highest honor of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Kursk-Root Medal of the First Order, to mark the 25th anniversary of his archpastoral consecration. The parishes of the Eastern American Diocese also gave him gifts of a cross and panaghia. Afterwards, the participants of the celebration were offered an abundant trapeza luncheon, during which speeches were made honoring His Eminence.
