Protopresbyter Konstantin Tivetsky Turns 80

On Sunday, January 28, Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles, CA, marked the 80 th birthday of its clergyman, Protopresbyter Konstantin Tivetsky. The church was overfilled with the many spiritual children and admirers of this eminent clergyman of the Russian Church. Fr Konstantin is the oldest active clergyman of the Diocese of San Francisco and Western America. Despite his age, he regularly and zealously performs divine services, taking confessions and performing services of need.

Fr Konstantin was born on the feast day of St Nina, Equal-to-the-Apostles, on January 27, 1927. He became a priest in 1948. The following year will be the 60 th anniversary of his ordination. He received his theological training in Moscow Theological Academy. He was among the first graduates of the school upon its reopening. At the Academy, he studied together with Archimandrite Ioann (Krestyankin) of blessed memory, and the future Metropolitan Pitirim of Volokolamsk. His graduating class included 11 future bishops.
