His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus Officiates at the Solemn Pentecostal Services at Holy Trinity Monastery
On June 11, 2006, on the day of Pentecost, His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus celebrated Divine Liturgy at the monastery cathedral in Jordanville, NY. The following day, on Day of the Holy Spirit, when the monastic brethren celebrate their feast day, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia officiated at Divine Liturgy, during which he ordained Subdeacon Nicholas Olhovsky to the rank of deacon. Priest Serafim Gan read a sermon in which he noted that we are bestowed with the grace of the Holy Spirit not only because we are Christians and members of the Church of Christ, but also as a sinful community needful of help, healing and salvation. At the end of divine services, a moleben was performed with a procession of the cross and the singing of "Many Years." His Eminence Vladyka then congratulated the monks on their feast day, and Deacon Nicholas Olhovsky on his reception of the grace of the deaconate.
Deacon Nicholas graduated Holy Trinity Seminary in 1998. Since 2000 he has served as the cell-attendant of His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus. Deacon Nicholas will continue to serve the Holy Church of Christ under His Eminence.
On the third day of the holiday, His Eminence officiated at Divine Liturgy along with His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Manhattan and numerous clerical guests. Deacon Andrei Rudenko, a long-time teacher at the Seminary, read a sermon. After Divine Liturgy, His Eminence expressed joy that the Lord allowed the brethren and pilgrims to spend these holy days of celebration in accordance with the church rule.
