The Rector and Parishioners of Holy Trinity Cathedral Will Make a Pilgrimage to the Holy Sites of Kiev, Chernigov and Pochaev Lavra

 

Pilgrimage Schedule

Departure from Toronto to Kiev is scheduled for April 30 at 5:30 pm. Return to Toronto from Kiev will be May 7 at 5:30 pm.

May 1.

  • Greeting at Borispol Airport, Kiev;
  • Arrival at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra Hotel;
  • Meal at Lavra pilgrim's refectory;
  • Excursion through Near and Far Caves;
  • Evening services;
  • Dinner at Lavra hotel.

May 2.

  • Early Divine Liturgy (6 am);
  • Moleben at the Church of the "Life-Giving Wellspring" Icon of the Mother of God with the donning of the cap of St Mark the Gravedigger;
  • Lunch at the pilgrims' refectory at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra;
  • Pilgrimage throughout the churches and monasteries of Kiev;
  • Evening services;
  • Dinner at Lavra hotel.

May 3.

  • Meal at the pilgrims' refectory at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra;
  • Trip to Chernigov;
  • Sites scheduled to visit:

•  Holy Trinity Cathedral (1696). The relics of St Feodosy Uglitsky (1696) and St Lavrenty of Chernigov (1950);

•  Boldina Mountain. Holy Prophet Elias Church (11 th century) and the cave monastery of St Anthony Pechersky. This monastery was established by the saint at around 1069. There are three underground churches in the caves, the cell of St Anthony and the relics of monastics who died in the caves during the Mongol-Tatar invasion of 1240. Near the caves is the well of St Anthony.  

•  Dormition of the Mother of God of Elets Convent. Established by Prince Svyatoslav Yaroslavovich on the site of the appearance, on a pine tree, of an icon of the Most-Holy Mother of God, called the "Eletskaya" and "Chernigov-Ilyinskaya) (glorified by the streaming of tears in the 17 th century).

•  Holy Transfiguration Cathedral. Founded by Prince Mstislav Vladimirovich circa 1034. This is one of the few churches of the Kievan Rus period that survived virtually intact.

•  Also: SS Boris and Gleb Cathedral (12 th century) and St Ekaterina Church (17 th century).

•  On the return trip to Kiev: St George the Victory-bearer Convent (18 th century). The Miracle-working Icon of the Mother of God "I Am With You and None is Against You."

  • Return to Kiev;
  • Dinner at the pilgrims' refectory at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra.

May 4 .

  • Breakfast at the pilgrims' refectory;
  • Departure for Pochaev;                                                
  • Arrival in Korets . Visit to Holy Trinity Convent, if time permits, an akathist before the Miracle-working Icon "Consolation of Sinners';"
  • Departure from Korets;
  • Arrival in Kremenets . Visit to Holy Epiphany Convent, where the locally-venerated Icon of the Mother of God of Kremenets and relics of Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon the Healer;
  • Departure from Kremenets;                                         
  • Arrival in Pochaev;
  • Check-in to Pochaev Lavra hotel;
  • Evening services;
  • Dinner at the pilgrims' refectory of Pochaev Lavra;

May 5 мая.

  • Midnight office at Uspensy Cathedral (5:00 am);
  • Lowering of the "Pochaev" Icon and the opening of the relics of St Job in the lower church (5:45 am);
  • Divine Liturgy (6:00 am);
  • Akathist at the relics of St Job (8:00 am);
  • Opening of Uspensky Cathedral (9:00 am), veneration of the "Footprint," which will remain open until 11:00 am;

•  Divine Liturgy at Uspensky Cathedral begins, and the relics of St Job are closed (10:00 am);

  • Departure for Holy Spirit Skete and a visit to the monastic cemetery;
  • Lunch at the pilgrims' refectory of Pochaev Lavra;
  • Visit to the caves of St Job of Pochaev;
  • Evening services (4:30 pm);
  • Dinner at the pilgrims' refectory at Pochaev Lavra;

NOTE : In connection with the priest's trip to Lvov, this schedule is subject to change.

May 6 .

  • Early Divine Liturgy (6:00 am);
  • Departure from Pochaev;
  • Visit to St Nicholas Convent (Gorodok);
  • Lunch at the Convent
  • Departure for Kiev;
  • Dinner at the pilgrims' refectory at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra.

May 7 .

  • Breakfast at the pilgrims' refectory at Kievo-Pechersky Lavra;
  • Open schedule (9 am until departure for the airport);
  • Departure for Borispol Airport.
  • Flight to Toronto (2:05 pm).

 

Total cost of the trip is CAN $1,430.00 if paid before March 1 . Afterwards, the cost may increase and seats will not be guaranteed. This price includes:

  • Airfare Toronto-Kiev-Toronto.
  • Accommodations at monastery hotels.
  • Bus transportation for the entire itinerary.
  • Orthodox tour guide for the entire trip.
  • Two daily meals.

Orders may be paid by check or cash . Medical insurance and insurance for trip cancellation and interruption must be arranged by the traveler and at request for additional fees.
