of the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God Parish
By the mercy of God, on September 6/19, 2004, His Eminence Metropolitan
Laurus, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside
of Russia, performed the rite of consecration of the foundation
of by laying relics of the holy martyrs killed at the Monastery
of St Savva the Blessed.
Now, once again, we appeal to you—all of you in the diaspora—for
assistance. Please help us build our long-awaited church of the
Nativity of the Holy Mother of God in Albany, the capital of New
York State. In 1987, we appealed to you, and in these last 17 years,
with God's help and yours, we were able to build a well-equipped
church hall and began utilizing it to raise funds for the construction
of a new church. At the present time our real estate is valued at
$1,300,000. The cost of building the new church is now estimated
to be slightly under a million dollars. Taking into consideration
the combined current assets of our Building Fund, and the Church
and Sisterhood savings, amounting to $300,000, this gave us the
possibility to obtain a mortgage for $750,000. To date, the architects,
town and contractors have been paid approximately $200,000, leaving
a balance of approximately $100,000. At the present time, the steel
structure has been erected and wood framing has begun.
Ours is a small parish, but with God's help we are blessed with
many children, therefore we have a reason to build. We also have
a number of new ÎmigrÎs from Russia, and several American converts.
The plans for the new church have been drawn by the architectural
firm of Barkstrom & LaCroix, the firm involved in the construction
of the Church of the Protectin of the Holy Mother of God in Rochester,
NY. We appeal to God's mercy and to your willingness to help us
lower our mortgage obligation—thereby our monthly payments—and will
be forever grateful for whatever assistance you can give us. All
"builders of this holy temple" will be remembered in our
prayers for as long as the church stands.
May God's blessing be with you.
